PYRAN® S fire resistant safety glass

There are many benefits to fire rated glass aside from the architectural possibilities and use of natural light. Fire resistant glazing can offer a clear sight of fire to assist in safe evacuation and, compartmentalization of a building into safe havens, while maximising light penetration. Incorporating specialist glazing also helps to maintain superior acoustic levels and impact safety – adding another layer of protection to individuals.

SCHOTT PYRAN® S fire-resistant glass is superior to conventional safety glass for several reasons. Made from borosilicate, it shows stronger resistance to a range of temperature differentials, which offers the potential for larger panes with longer fire resistance times and reduced fracturing.

The impressive technical qualities of PYRAN® are at the heart of its enduring appeal. The unique application of the float process to borosilicate glass creates a far superior product to conventional soda-lime glasses, offering higher softening temperatures, higher viscosity and reduced risk of fracture. Fire ratings from 30 minutes up to 120 minutes in steel systems are achievable with SCHOTT PYRAN S.

Life-saving light transmission
PYRAN® glazing retains outstanding transparency in extreme temperatures. This can be vital in the event of a fire, when visibility is challenged, and can be a lifesaver when evacuating a building. Meanwhile, high light transmission along with excellent colour reproduction mean that security can still be combined with attractive aesthetics. The chemical composition of the base glass means that the formation of NiS crystals is not possible, eliminating spontaneous fractures and the need to heat soak test the glass.

Enduring, popular and versatile
PYRAN® has been a globally trusted safety glazing product for decades, and it’s likely you will have already benefitted from its protection in many areas of everyday life. Commonly found in airports, hotels, school, museums, offices and shopping centres around the world, its versatility means it’s found in doors, roofs, facades and partitions, as well as windows.
