Wastewater treatment seminar from Graf UK goes online

Fast-growing sustainable water management specialists Graf UK have launched the first in a series of online seminars.

The company brings more than 50 years of European expertise to three water management disciplines – wastewater treatment, rainwater harvesting and stormwater management – and has chosen wastewater treatment for the first virtual seminar.

The hour-long seminar will bring specifiers up to date with the latest requirements for wastewater treatment – the General Binding Rules which came into force in January 2020. Architects designing properties off the mains sewage network need to be aware of this change which is a bid by the Environment Agency to reduce the level of pollution from sewage in the nation’s watercourses.

Under the General Binding Rules, anyone with a septic tank discharging into a watercourse should have replaced it or upgraded the foul water solution by January 2020. But many property owners and designers are unaware of the issue. Graf UK’s seminar advises specifiers of their options.

The seminar also goes back to basics, explaining exactly what wastewater treatment is and involves, and the differences between the various treatment options as well as how to size a wastewater treatment system. It then advises on the more advanced options, their features and benefits, and the results they can achieve.

This element of the seminar advises on SBR (Sequencing Batch Reactor) systems which are designed specifically to enhance the anaerobic conditions that encourage biochemical activities within a wastewater tank, and thus are the preferred system of many specifiers to meet the super-stringent requirements of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA).

This first online seminar will be followed by others on rainwater harvesting and on infiltration tunnels which combine the need to dispose of rainwater and stormwater in an environmentally sensitive way, with scope for taking the strain off the sewer network and wastewater treatment systems.

Graf UK’s water management systems are preferred by many specifiers and contractors as they are not only designed to be simply intelligent but also cost-effective to install (using gravel instead of concrete) and operate (using exceptionally low levels of energy. Some even operate without power).
