Door closers deliver health benefits

Available in standard and free swing versions, Powermatic controlled, concealed door closers are totally concealed when the door is closed, delivering a host of benefits in aesthetics, hygiene, safety and well-being that are proving extremely popular with specifiers, clinicians and facilities managers throughout the healthcare sector.

British designed and manufactured, Powermatic door closers meet all relevant fire and accessibility requirements. They carry the CE mark and enable doors to meet the requirements of Approved Document M and BS 8300. They are maintenance-free and come with a ten-year manufacturer’s warranty.

Their concealment offers a wide range of benefits in key areas of health sector application:-

Aesthetics

Great looking interiors may not be considered a high priority in many health and care establishments, but there is widespread recognition that well-being and the recovery process can be enhanced by creating less institutionalised interiors. The unsightly control arms and mechanical boxes which are unavoidable with surface mounted door closers are an inescapable reminder of functional, institutional facilities. Totally concealed when the door is closed, and particularly unobtrusive when the door is open, Powermatic door closers present no such problems and can make a valuable contribution towards creating less institutionalised, more therapeutic environments, particularly in psychiatric care units.

Hygiene

With cleanliness and hygiene paramount considerations, the Powermatic’s concealed mounting means that it offers minimal surfaces on which dust and other potentially harmful detritus can accumulate. Its low mounting height also makes inspection and cleaning easier.

Safety

Where safety is concerned, Powermatic is being used more and more in areas where anti-ligature and/or anti-barricade measures need to be taken. Post-natal depression accommodation, psychiatric facilities and secure units are obvious areas of application, but the door closers are being used more and more in general health situations where risks are present.

Total concealment of the door closer obviously means that, when the door is closed, the closer poses no risk to patients and clients. However, The door closer can also be mounted within 300mm of the bottom of the door.

The risk of door controls being vandalised can also pose a very real risk to the safety of a building’s occupants, particularly where fire doors are concerned. Powermatic’s concealed nature presents very little opportunity for the would-be vandal to damage its mechanisms and render the door useless in case of fire.

Powermatic door closers are being adopted for an increasing number of more general situations where their fire performance, durability and accessibility characteristics make them an ideal choice for many types of doors throughout health and care establishments.
