AkzoNobel and Sprayfine big hit for Big Yellow

A beautiful finish is a wondrous thing. Whether it’s the finale of a great musical or the end to a sumptuous meal, there’s no substitute for ending on a high. In a sense the same applies to what we absorb visually. Who wants to look at a dowdy, crumbling building or tired-looking old soffits? It’s an assault on the eyes that can easily be remedied by some TLC and the use of great quality products and processes.

When Hampshire-based spray paint contractor Sprayfine needed to undertake a large contract for one of their most prestigious clients they turned to coatings manufacturer and supplier AkzoNobel to supply a number of products from their SteelSeal range.

Sprayfine are a leading national architectural spray paint contractor working for companies both large and small. Based in Droxford, Hampshire they cover the whole of England. As a company they’re committed to quality and have evolved their techniques and service offering in line with customer requirements, legislation and industry best practices.

Deborah Clark, Director, Sprayfine commented, “I started with Sprayfine when the company began in 2009 in sales/surveying/managing projects. I’m currently still doing the same, plus managing the business for the owner alongside a small, but brilliant team, plus 6 on-site spraying crews”. She went on to add, “working with quality suppliers is key to what we do at Sprayfine, as it has a direct effect on the end result for our valued clients”. Continuing to comment she said, “We have worked directly for Big Yellow for a number of years now. They have substantial yearly budgets for maintaining their stores and a key factor for them is sustaining the buildings”.

Deborah Clark added, “We work with various products in the market place, but in our opinion have found AkzoNobel’s SteelSeal to be the market leader. The end result provides the quality and the longevity that Big Yellow and our other clients look for. AkzoNobel also offer a ten-year ‘Statement of Intended Performance’ alongside our application process which is a great selling point to our clients. The Big Yellow corporate colour is highly pigmented and requires a high quality product to give the best finish which AkzoNobel’s SteelSeal provides”.

Ian Crawford, Sales Manager, AkzoNobel said,” working with Sprayfine and supplying them with our SteelSeal product for Big Yellow is a prime example of how we can make a difference in terms of advice, product and the end result”.

AkzoNobel has led the development and supply of organic coatings to the major cladding producers for over 25 years. SteelSeal is specially formulated for application to architectural cladding materials including coil coated finishes such as; PVC, polyester, silicone polyester and Pvf2 coated substrates and primed aluminium. The breakdown of the original factory applied coating is very gradual, and timely maintenance with SteelSeal can further increase the cost-effectiveness of cladding products. For example; SteelSeal PC4VC Primer is used as the patch primer and full coat priming after preparing the original coil finish. It is a high build, single-pack primer based on pigmented moisture curing urethane pre-polymer in aromatic and polar solvents. Intended as the primer on a variety of pre-finished cladding, including: Plastisol, Pvf2, Silicone Polyester, Polyurethanes and certain Acrylic coatings. It comes in a 5 litre pack and is available in Light Grey, Dark Grey or Off-White colours and is formulated to be used in conjunction with AkzoNobels’ SteelSeal Topcoat.

SteelSeal Topcoat PC5VF Series is a semi-gloss, high-build topcoat based on pigmented synthetic polymers in bland solvents. It is specially formulated for use on cladding where resistance to weathering, mild chemicals and water is required. SteelSeal Topcoat is highly versatile and through the AkzoNobel colour match service, it can be matched to a myriad of colours including BS4800, RAL and NCS colour palettes. SteelSeal comes in 10 Litre pails, has excellent weathering properties and a life expectancy of up to ten years. The topcoat is tinted to order with an approximate lead time of 3-4 working days. The SteelSeal system enables longer periods between repainting, thus reducing the overall cost of building maintenance.

Deborah Clark concluded by saying, “The AkzoNobel relationship for us is a very personable one. Their team based in Blackburn are efficient, helpful, knowledgeable and will always update us on information on their products that they feel will improve our business. They are always on hand for any technical issues that we have and are happy to visit sites if we need recommendations and advice”.

AkzoNobel is a leading global paints and coatings company and a major producer of specialty chemicals. Calling on centuries of expertise, they supply industries and consumers worldwide with innovative products and sustainable technologies designed to meet the growing demands of our fast-changing planet.
